Jr. Kings’ Presidents’ Day Challenge a winner

Twenty-nine teams from Arizona, Northern and Southern California, Colorado, Utah and Washington, as well as Alberta and British Columbia, competed in this year’s Los Angeles Jr. Kings-hosted Presidents’ Day Challenge Tournament, which was showcased from Feb. 13-16 at Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo and Skating Edge Ice Arena in Harbor City.

Champions were crowned in five divisions: Midget 18U AA (Burnaby Bulldogs); Bantam AA (Utah Jr. Grizzlies); Bantam A (Fresno Jr. Monsters); Pee Wee AA (California Golden Bears 1); and Squirt B (Jr. Kings).

“We can’t thank all of the participating clubs enough for helping deliver what proved to be an exciting weekend of hockey,” said tournament director Brian McDonough. “There was great competition in every division, and the camaraderie and sportsmanship displayed by all of the players, coaches, team managers and families was second to none.

“We’re also lucky enough to get such great support from both our terrific team of volunteers and the staffs at Toyota Sports Center and Skating Edge Ice Arena who help events like this hit on all cylinders.

“We also want to thank our restaurant partners – Grimaldi’s Pizzeria and Rock & Brews – for their outstanding hospitality throughout the weekend.”

Division champions were awarded a banner and trophy, and all players on the championship teams received medals. Players on the runner-up teams in each division also received medals.

The Presidents’ Day Challenge is part of the Jr. Kings’ Tinseltown Tournament Series. Pre-registration is now open for the Series’ final event of the 2014-15 season: the Carmen Starr Memorial Day Invitational (May 22-25, 2015).
