Champs crowned at Jr. Kings’ Thanksgiving tourney

Fifty-four teams from Northern and Southern California, Nevada and Winnipeg competed in this year’s Los Angeles Jr. Kings-hosted Thanksgiving Extravaganza Tournament, which was showcased from Nov. 26-29 at three Southern California rinks.

Champions were crowned in nine divisions: High School (Shaftesbury Titans); Bantam A (Pasadena Maple Leafs); Pee Wee AA (Anaheim Jr. Ducks); Pee Wee A (Ventura Mariners); Pee Wee B (Channel Islands Riptide); Squirt BB (Bakersfield Dragons); Squirt B (California Wave); Mite Track I (Jr. Kings 2007); and Track II (California Wave).

Games were contested at Toyota Sports Center (El Segundo), KHS Ice Arena (Anaheim) and Skating Edge Ice Arena (Harbor City).

“We can’t thank all of the participating clubs enough for helping deliver what proved to be a great weekend of hockey to ring in the holiday season,” said tournament director Brian McDonough. “There was so much spirited competition in every division, and the camaraderie and sportsmanship displayed by all of the players, coaches, team managers and families was second to none.

“We’re also lucky enough to get such great support from both our terrific team of volunteers and the staffs at Toyota Sports Center, KHS and Skating Edge who help events like this hit on all cylinders.”

Division champions were awarded a banner and trophy, and all players on the championship teams received medals. Players on the runner-up teams in each division also received medals.

The Thanksgiving Extravaganza is part of the Jr. Kings’ Tinseltown Tournament Series. Pre-registration is now open for the Series’ remaining two events of the 2015-16 season: the Presidents’ Day Challenge (Feb. 12-15, 2016) and Carmen Starr Memorial Day Classic (May 27-30, 2016).
