Former Edison coach Walker takes similar role with Santa Margarita Catholic High School hockey program

Santa Margarita Catholic High School has announced the hiring of David Walker as the head coach of the Eagles hockey program, effective immediately.

Walker comes to Santa Margarita with years of playing and coaching experience.

Previously at Edison High School where he served as the head coach and director of hockey operations for the last six seasons, Walker took the program to an ADHSHL championship.

“I’m excited for the new opportunity and challenge that Santa Margarita offers,” Walker said. “SM hockey is a well-respected school and club that I’m honored to be a part of. I’m forever grateful for my time with Edison High School over the last six seasons and will work hard to bring the same focus and passion to SM hockey.”

He is a Level 4 USA Hockey-certified coach and has coached youth hockey for the past 10 years. His tenure includes coaching eight seasons with the Anaheim Jr. Ducks’ 14U AAA team, with numerous appearances at the USA Hockey Tier I National Championships.

A member of the ADHSHL Advisory Board and Tier II director of coaches for the Jr. Ducks, Walker, who has worked closely with Santa Margarita’s new director of hockey operations and general manager Kristopher Badame on numerous Jr. Ducks’ Tier I teams, focuses his coaching strategy on “speed, energy, puck possession and competing all over the ice.”

“I am very excited for our program, players, parents, and school, that David has agreed to join Santa Margarita Catholic High School as the head coach of our hockey program,” said Badame. “David’s hockey knowledge, leadership, and coaching style are a perfect fit to carry on the tradition of SM hockey, and he will unquestionably serve as a great role model for our student-athletes. I look forward to once again working with David to achieve our common goal of bringing another USA Hockey high school national championship to our school.

“It’s a great day to be an Eagle.”
