At this year’s California Amateur Hockey Association (CAHA) Tier I state championships, which were contested last weekend (Feb. 5-7), the Los Angeles Jr. Kings’ Pee Wee Major 03 and Minor 04 teams celebrated titles in their respective divisions.

The Major 03 team, led by head coach Jeff Turcotte, cruised to a perfect 3-0 record at states, which were showcased at The Rinks-Lakewood Ice, including a 5-2 victory over the Anaheim Jr. Ducks in Sunday’s championship game.

L.A. opened the weekend with a 19-0 win over the San Jose Jr. Sharks on Friday, followed by a 9-0 victory over the Jr. Ducks.

The Igor Nikulin-led 04 Minor team skated to a 3-0-2 record at states, which were played at The Rinks-Westminster Ice, including a 5-1 victory over the Jr. Ducks in Sunday’s championship game.

The Jr. Kings began the event with a 3-2 victory over the Jr. Sharks on Friday, followed by a 10-5 triumph over the Jr. Ducks. The next day, L.A. fell to the Jr. Sharks in a shootout, 2-1, and to the Jr. Ducks, 3-2 – also in a shootout.

In the Pee Wee Major bracket, the top four teams in CAHA regular-season play qualified for state playoffs, which for the fourth year in a row used a double-elimination format.

The Minor division used a double round-robin format, with three points awarded for each victory. The top two teams at its conclusion advanced to the championship game.

El Segundo’s Toyota Sports Center and the Jr. Kings will host the upcoming Pacific District regional championships, which will run from March 2-6; the Jr. Kings’ Bantam Major, 16U AAA Major and 18U AAA teams will all participate for the right to advance to the USA Hockey National Championships.
