Las Vegas natives, Thunderbirds standouts Mensch, Bonaldi reel in monthly USPHL honors

The USPHL has announced its monthly award winners for December and a pair of Las Vegas natives and Las Vegas Thunderbirds players claimed honors in the Pacific Division

Heath Mensch is a Forward of the Month and Anthony Bonaldi is a Goaltender of the Month.

For Mensch, you can’t stop a runaway train.

The 2003 birth year just keeps up the insane nearly three points per game pace over already 25 games, with a league-leading 74 points so far. During the month of December, he posted 12 goals and five assists for 17 points – in five games.

He enjoyed a five-goal outing on Dec. 11 against the San Diego Sabers, and he was able to cross the career 100-point mark in December as well.

In two seasons, he has 111 points in 61 regular-season games.

Mensch played for the Vegas Jr. Golden Knights during his youth hockey career.

Bonaldi, a 2001 birth year, ended up putting together the best performance in December for any Pacific goalie facing at least 100 shots.

And, boy, did he face shots.

He made 132 stops on 144 shots to go 1-1 against the Lake Tahoe Lakers and get a second straight 46-save win against the San Diego Sabers to close out 2021.

He is 8-5-0 his second season as a T-Bird.

Back home, Bonaldi played for the Las Vegas Storm.
