Scholastic inline leagues face off around the state

The Central Coast High School Hockey League remains one of the state’s longest-running scholastic club organizations, with teams spread throughout the Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo regions.

This season’s lineup includes four teams in the varsity division and three in the junior varsity bracket.

League play started last month and will run until mid-February. The season includes 10 games plus playoffs. Championship games are scheduled for Feb. 27, 2016.

All games will be played at Central Coast Sports Arena in Santa Maria with the exception of one week at UC Santa Barbara’s rec center.

The postseason schedule will feature a varsity/JV skills competition, along with a coaches’ all-star game.

The 2015-16 varsity division lineup includes San Luis Obispo, North County and two teams representing Santa Barbara (Blue and Gold). The JV division features Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo and the Central Coast Chiefs.

Santa Barbara will take its varsity teams to San Jose to compete in the 2016 NARCh West Coast Winternationals, which will run from Jan. 15-18, and to the State Cup tournament in Irvine in March.

Santa Barbara Gold, the 2014-15 varsity champion, made history for the modest circuit when it won the 2015 JV-I State Cup championship.

San Jose Region

Scholastic inline hockey is still going strong in the Bay Area.

Thirty-two teams are participating in the high school league at San Jose’s Silver Creek Sportsplex for the 2015-16 winter season.

The fall season wrapped up with championship games last month, and championships for the current season are scheduled for Feb. 27, 2016.
