Six named to NAHL Top Prospects Tournament

Six players with California and Nevada ties – forwards Jacob Hamacher (Corona), Brennan Blaszczak (Las Vegas) and Joey Cassetti (Pleasanton); and defensemen Cole Souto (Yorba Linda), Zak Galambos (Walnut Creek) and Rourke Russell (Long Beach) – were selected to compete in the upcoming North American Hockey League (NAHL) Top Prospects Tournament, which will be showcased on Feb. 14-15 in Plymouth, Mich.

In short time, the NAHL Top Prospects Tournament has evolved into one of the most highly scouted showcases of its kind. Last season, over 200 scouts attended the event, featuring almost every NHL team and NCAA Division I school. Over a third of the players who competed in last year’s event ended up with an NCAA Division I opportunity.

Hamacher is a member of the NAHL’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights; Blaszczak the Springfield Jr. Blues; Cassetti the U.S. Under-17 National Team; Souto the Bismarck Bobcats; Galambos the Johnstown Tomahawks; and Russell the Wichita Falls Wildcats.

Cassetti is a Boston College recruit; Russell has committed to play his NCAA Division I hockey at the University of Miami-Ohio.

Only those NAHL players without an NCAA commitment at the time of their selection are eligible to participate at the event, with the exception of those who’ll be playing on the NAHL Selects team, or those who’ve been identified as a player of interest by NHL Central Scouting.
