WCRHL making plans for upcoming 2021-22 roller hockey season

Collegiate roller hockey has not been played on the West Coast for over 16 months, since March 8, 2020, where Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (D2), Cal Poly Pomona (D3), and Arizona State University (D4) were crowned champions, with all championship games being decided by a single goal.

The National Collegiate Roller Hockey Association canceled the 2020 National Collegiate Roller Hockey Championships due to COVID-19, as well as the 2020-21 season except for a few events and a small national championship Event.

But there is light at the end of the tunnel.

In still uncertain times, the planning must start for a new collegiate roller hockey season.

A total of 15 representatives from 11 schools attended the WCRHL 2021-22 Active Club Committee Meeting. Team representatives were excited to talk about the coming season, ready to get back on campus, ready to start practicing with their teammates. The meeting reintroduced the ACC concept, and an ACC lead was chosen, being Griffin Sherwood from the University of Arizona.

The ACC also selected the WCRHL Board of Directors for the upcoming season, and conference director Brennan Edwards presented a plan for the first semester of the 2021-22 season.

The WCRHL Board of Directors for the 2021-22 season:
President – Brennan Edwards – WCRHL Conference Director
Treasurer – Griffin Sherwood – University of Arizona
Secretary – John Paerels – Head Coach, Cal Poly Pomona
Sam Blakewell – Cal Poly San Luis Obispo
Elisa Mejia – University of California, Berkeley
Brad Price – University of California, Santa Barbara

The plan for the upcoming WCRHL 2021-22 first semester is as follows:
October 9, 2021 – Mandatory Pre-Season Event – The Rinks Irvine (Saturday only)
October 23-24, 2021 – WCRHL Kickoff Event – The Rinks Irvine (Saturday all day, Sunday 8 a.m.-noon)
November 6-7, 2021 – WCRHL Regular Season Event – Silver Creek Sportsplex – San Jose (Saturday all day, Sunday 8 a.m.-noon)

The WCRHL hopes to return to its regular second semester schedule scenario with events in Corona, Queen Creek, Ariz., and Tucson, Ariz. Another Northern California event is also being considered. WCRHL conference championships will likely take place in early March 2022 in Corona.
