Harvard junior goaltender Merrick Madsen has been named the ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week, as announced by the league office Jan. 3.
Madsen earns the award after posting his third 30-save performance of the season last Friday in helping No. 4 Harvard to a 5-1 victory over Rensselaer.
The Acton native has started every game this season for the Crimson, boasting a 9-3-1 record, as Harvard has reeled off four-straight wins. Against ECAC opponents, Madsen ranks second in the conference with a 2.13 goals-against average and is 15th in the nation versus all opponents with a 2.16 mark. His .792 win percentage ranks fourth nationally.
The award is Madsen’s second this season after he picked up the honor Nov. 22.
In his youth days, Madsen, also a Philadelphia Flyers prospect, played youth hockey back home for the WV Wolves and California Heat.
