California youth hockey alums Dunnigan, Rangel, Boldway nab weekly USPHL awards

Three California products have earned USPHL weekly accolades.

In the Atlantic East Division, Bryce Dunnigan of the Connecticut Jr. Rangers is the Goaltender of the Week.

Dunnigan, a 2002 birth year from Bakersfield (pictured top left), went toe-to-toe with the Rockets Hockey Club and turned away 57 of 61 saves for a huge confidence-boosting victory. He also made 24 saves in a close loss to the Utica Jr. Comets in his next effort.

During his youth hockey days, Dunnigan played for the Valencia Jr. Flyers and Tahoe Prep Academy.

Down in the Southeast Division, Hampton Roads Whalers’ blueliner John Rangel is the Defenseman of the Week.

The 2003-born Corona native put up two goals and an assist during the split weekend with the Potomac Patriots and added three blocked shots. Rangel (pictured top middle) has gone on an impressive four-game point-scoring streak.

Back home, Rangel played for the California Wave, California Golden Bears and Anaheim Jr. Ducks.

Over in the Mountain Division, Deven Boldway is the Defenseman of the Week after a solid weekend with the Ogden Mustangs.

Veteran leadership paves the way as the second-year Mustang rang up two assists and defensively helped the Mustangs to defeat Salt Lake area rival Utah Outliers on Friday night by a 4-1 score.

Boldway (pictured top right) has eight points through 11 games this season.

A Napa native, Boldway spent time with the Golden State Elite Eagles and San Jose Jr. Sharks during his youth hockey career.
