Kings’ Doughty, Kopitar take home top NHL awards

Two players from the Los Angeles Kings bagged top honors last night at the NHL awards ceremony in Las Vegas.

Drew Doughty (pictured) won his first Norris Trophy as the league’s top defenseman, while new captain Anze Kopitar was awarded the Selke Trophy as best defensive forward and the Lady Byng Trophy as the most sportsmanlike player.

Doughty posted 51 points last season, tied for ninth among all NHL defensemen, and averaged 28:01 of ice time and playing against opponents’ top lines.

Kopitar, who was named the new Los Angeles captain earlier this offseason, tallied 25 goals and 74 points in 2015-16, leading the Kings in scoring. He also recorded just 16 penalty minutes and had a plus-34 rating.
