Laguna Hills’ Pankowski claims WCHA women’s weekly honors

Laguna Hills native, Anaheim Lady Ducks graduate and University of Wisconsin junior forward Annie Pankowski was named the WCHA Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Nov. 20, 2016.

Pankowski tallied Wisconsin’s first natural hat trick since 2012, leading the top-ranked Badgers to a 4-1 win at No. 3 Minnesota-Duluth in Saturday’s series finale.

The junior scored an even-strength goal, a power-play marker and a short-handed strike, becoming only the fifth Badger in program history to collect a hat trick with the three types of goals.

Returning to the UW lineup after missing the previous four games while playing with the U.S. National Team at the Four Nations Cup, Pankowski’s three goals led the WCHA last weekend and matched six others for tops in the NCAA.

This is Pankowski’s first WCHA weekly award of the 2016-17 season and her sixth career honor (including three Rookie of the Week accolades).
