Newport Beach native McManus named Big Ten Second Star of the Week
Newport Beach native and University of Minnesota sophomore forward Brannon McManus has been named the Big Ten’s Second Star of the Week for the week ending Oct. 7.
• Netted the first two goals of Sunday’s game 7:17 and 10:45 into the first period of Minnesota’s 7-4 victory against then-No. 1 Minnesota Duluth
• Added an assist on the Gophers’ sixth goal early in the third period
• Recorded his second career multi-point game and his first since Oct. 15, 2017 against Penn State
• Earns his second career weekly award and first since Oct. 17, 2017 (Third Star)
During his youth career, McManus played for the LA Selects.
McManus is also only the second California native to play at Minnesota in the modern era after goaltender John Blue (San Jose), who played for the Gophers from 1984-87.
