Newport Beach product McManus inks first pro contract with AHL’s Canucks

The AHL’s Abbotsford Canucks have announced that the club has signed forward Brannon McManus to an amateur tryout agreement.

McManus joins Abbotsford after completing his fifth NCAA Division I season with the University of Nebraska-Omaha (NCHC), where he ranked third on the team in points (32) and assists (23) over 34 games.

The Newport Beach native transferred to Omaha this season after playing four campaigns with the University of Minnesota (Big Ten). He recorded 87 points (39 goals, 48 assists) in 136 games for the Gophers between 2017-21 and captured the 2021 Big Ten championship with the Gophers in 2021.

McManus was also part of the 2017 Clark Cup champions with the USHL’s Chicago Steel.

During his youth hockey days, McManus played for the LA Selects.
