San Carlos’ Cosentino, Walnut Creek’s Galambos pick up monthly accolades from Atlantic Hockey

Two California products have garnered monthly honors from Atlantic Hockey.

Air Force freshman forward Clayton Cosentino is the Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Month, while American International College junior defenseman Zak Galambos is the Atlantic Hockey Defensive Player of the Month.

Cosentino registered eight points in eight games as he helped lead the Falcons to a 5-3-0 record in January.

The San Carlos native led the team with 83 faceoff wins, 23 more than any other Falcon during the month. The freshman won 56 percent of those faceoffs.

He recorded a career-best three points on a goal and two assists in the Falcons’ win at Mercyhurst, Jan. 21. Cosentino scored in three straight games in the month, the longest streak of his career. He had the primary assist on the game winner at Mercyhurst, Jan. 21 and capped the month with a point in both games against Army, including two points in the series opener.

This is his first Atlantic Hockey monthly honor of the season.

During his youth career in California, Cosentino played for the Golden State Elite Eagles, California Cougars, Santa Clara Blackhawks and Blackstars.

Galambos was a force at both ends of the ice as he helped lead the Yellow Jackets to a 10-1-0 month of January.

The Walnut Creek native was the team’s playmaking leader with nine helpers, four of those coming on game-winning goals. Galambos also boasted a +7 rating and a team-best 16 blocked shots for the Yellow Jackets on the back end. AIC held its opposition to a paltry 2.18 goals per game and 23.8 shots per contest during the month.

This is Galambos’ first Atlantic Hockey monthly honor this season.

During his youth hockey career, Galambos played for the San Jose Jr. Sharks, Vacaville North Stars, Berkeley Bulldogs and Oakland Bears.
