Baldwin Park native, California youth hockey grad Yu commits to NCAA D-III Rivier

The USPHL’s Pueblo Bulls have announced that 2001-born defenseman Alan Yu has committed to play for NCAA Division III Rivier University.

Yu is the second Bulls alumni to commit to play for Rivier, following Milan Breczko, who played for the Bulls from 2019-21.

Rivier is located in Nashua, N.H.

A Baldwin Park native, Yu was a late but terrific addition to the Bulls blueline, playing a solid two-way game, showing off great skating ability, and bringing high-end hockey sense and steady defensive play.

“Alan was a huge piece for us to add at the end of the season,” said Bulls head coach Chris Wilhite. “He played the game the right way and was someone that we continually leaned on in every situation at the most important time of the season. He came in and was immediately one of the guys and didn’t miss a beat on the ice either.”

“Taking the opportunity mid-season to come and play for the Pueblo Bulls was one of the best decisions I made in my hockey career,” added Yu. “The billets, players, and coaches quickly made me feel like I was a part of the team. The structure and culture of the team made me the best hockey player I could be. Giving me the opportunity to advance to the next level, I owe a lot to the Pueblo Bulls for where I am today. Even though I was with the organization for a short time, the players and coaches made me a better teammate, hockey player, and person. The only thing I would change is starting my season with the Bulls from the beginning.”

In a Pueblo uniform, Yu recorded two assists in 11 games after starting the season in the SIJHL.

“We couldn’t be happier for Alan to continue his hockey career at Rivier University,” Wilhite said. “He was a terrific kid for us to coach and a great person off the ice. We look forward to watching Alan team up with Milan Breczko at Rivier and be a big part of their team and university moving forward.”

Growing up, Yu played for the California Wave, San Diego Jr. Gulls, and Los Angeles Jr. Kings.
