California products Buium, Harris, Weiermair tabbed for 2023 BioSteel All-American Game

USA Hockey and the United States Hockey League have announced the rosters for the 2023 BioSteel All-American Game, which is scheduled for 4 p.m. EST on Jan. 16 at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Mich.

The game, featuring players identified as top prospects for the 2023 NHL Draft, will be broadcast live on NHL Network.

Three California natives have been selected to play in the game, including defenseman Zeev Buium (Laguna Niguel/NTDP) and forwards Sam Harris (San Diego/Sioux Falls Stampede) and Alex Weiermair (Los Angeles/NTDP). Harris and Weiermair are University of Denver (NCHC) commits.

Buium and Weiermair are Los Angeles Jr. Kings graduates, while Harris skated for the San Diego Jr. Gulls.

“The BioSteel All-American Game is a wonderful way for the USHL and USA Hockey to celebrate the outstanding Tier I hockey talent in the United States,” said USHL president and commissioner Bill Robertson. “This event showcases the best of the best that our league and USA Hockey can offer on a national stage. We are exciting to watch this unique contest with the mixed teams competing at the highest levels of amateur hockey. We also appreciate USA Hockey hosting this event in Plymouth, Mich.”

Rosters for the event include a combination of players from the USHL along with the USA Hockey National Team Development Program Under-18 Team. The NTDP is one of the 16 USHL member clubs and will split its roster with the top USHL players for this year’s event.

The game format this year will have players assigned to teams, from both the U.S. National Under-18 Team of USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program and the USHL, the nation’s only Tier I junior hockey league.

The 47 players hail from 14 different states, with Minnesota’s 12 players leading all states. A total of 11 different teams that compete in the USHL are represented across the two rosters and 42 of the 47 players are currently committed to play NCAA Division I college hockey, across 21 schools.

Now into its fourth year, the BioSteel All-American Game has featured 265 NHL Draft picks, including 58 total first-round selections.
