California natives Kopfstein, Tsoar, Kennedy bag weekly USPHL awards

The USPHL has announced its weekly awards, with several Califiornia players taking home the honors.

Connecticut Jr. Rangers blueliner Jack Kopfstein is the Atlantic Premier Division Defenseman of the Week, Ventura Vikings forward Kai Tsoar is the Pacific Premier Forward of the Week, and Hammton Roads Whalers goalie Janic Kennedy is the Southeast Elite Goaltender of the Week.

Four-year Premier veteran Kopfstein (‘05/Newport Beach) has been outstanding this season for his new team the Jr. Rangers, recently posting a 1-2-3 line over three recent games for the defending national champions. In 130 regular-season games, he has accumulated 91 points and will be looking for the century mark this month.

Back home, Kopfstein skated for the San Diego Saints, Anaheim Ice Dogs and JSerra High School.

Since joining the first-year Vikings in November, Tsoar (‘04/Calabasas) scored two goals and added three assists for five points in a split weekend against Henderson. He is on a five-game scoring streak with 13 points, and he has 15 points overall in eight games.

Prior to the Vikings, Tsoar played for the California Golden Bears, California Titans and Ventura Mariners.

Kennedy (‘04/Mission Viejo) was standout goalie last week, posting two shutouts for the Whalers to go 1-0-0-1 with 49 total saves. He has a .950 save percentage in his second season with the Whalers. He has seven career shutouts to his name and five this season, the most of any Elite goalie for 2024-25 so far.

Growing up, Kennedy played for the Saints and Anaheim Jr. Ducks.
