California natives Rangel, Alford pick up weekly awards from USPHL

The USPHL has announced that California natives John Rangel and Carver Alford have earned weekly player awards.

Rangel is the Southeast Premier Division Defenseman of the Week with the Hampton Roads Whalers, while Alford is the Pacific Premier Division Defenseman of the Week with the Lake Tahoe Lakers.

A co-captain for the Whalers, Rangel, an ‘03 from Corona, is showing his veteran leadership for the Whalers in his third season with the Premier team.

Not only did he produce two goals and two assists for four points, he also led his team in average ice time (22:05) and plus-minus (plus-5).

Rangel now has 64 points in 104 career games.

Back home, Rangel skated for the California Wave, California Golden Bears, and Anaheim Jr. Ducks.

Alford, a 2005-born Lake Tahoe product, registered 2-3-5 in his most recent three games for the Lakers, out of nine games played so far since his acquisition from the Las Vegas Thunderbirds. Alford was plus-1 with two blocked shots for the weekend.

Overall, he has registered 12 points in 15 games.

During his youth hockey days, Alford played for the Golden State Elite Eagles, Tahoe Prep Academy, and Vegas Jr. Golden Knights.
