California products Connelly, Vachon garner weekly USHL awards
The USHL has announced its players of the week, with two California natives taking home the honors.
Tri-City Storm forward Trevor Connelly is the Forward of the Week and Waterloo Black Hawks goalie Calvin Vachon is the Goaltender of the Week.
A 2006-born Tustin native and Providence commit, Connelly posted four goals and four assists for eight points in two games last week.
Connelly scored twice and had two assists in a 6-3 home win over Sioux Falls last Saturday and then had two goals and two assists in a 6-5 shootout loss to the Stampede on Friday.
Overall, Connelly ranks second in the USHL in scoring with 78 points on 31 goals and 47 assists in 52 games.
Back home, Connelly played for the San Diego Saints, Anaheim Ice Dogs and Anaheim Jr. Ducks.
A Redondo Beach native and Alaska commit, the 2005-born Vachon went 2-0-1 in three games last week, compiling a 1.35 goals-against average and a .945 save percentage.
Vachon, a Los Angeles Jr. Kings alum, turned aside 28 of 29 shots in an 8-1 win over Cedar Rapids Saturday, had 14 saves on 15 shots in a 7-1 victory over Omaha Friday, and then stopped 27 shots in a in 2-0 loss to Dubuque last Tuesday.
On the season, Vachon owns a 22-11-0 record with a 2.76 goals-against average and a .905 save percentage
