California youth hockey grads Kopfstein, Jacobs collect weekly awards from USPHL

The USPHL has announced its latest players of the week, with two California connections being honored.

Dells Ducks blueliner Jack Kopfstein is the Midwest West Premier Division Defenseman of the Week, while PAL Jr. Islanders goalie Perry Jacobs is the Atlantic Premier Division Goaltender of the Week.

Kopfstein, an ‘05 out of Newport Beach, continues to be huge for the Ducks in his third season playing out of Poppy Waterman Arena.

He put up a 1-3-4 line when the Ducks beat the Blue Ox and defensively also helped the Ducks defeat the Minnesota Blue Ox. Overall, he had two goals and three assists for five points over five games between Dec. 14 and Dec. 18. He led the team in average ice time (27:13) and blocked six shots as well during that stretch.

During his youth hockey days, Kopfstein skated for the San Diego Saints, Anaheim Jr. Ice Dogs and JSerra Catholic High School.

Jacobs, a 2004-born native of Sparks, Nev., is a third-year USPHL veteran and first-year Jr. Islander who stopped 28 out of 30 shots on Dec. 16 to defeat the Hershey Cubs in overtime.

For the season, after also playing on Dec. 20, he has a 3-3-2-0 record with a .918 save percentage.

Jacobs spent time with the Golden State Elite Eagles prior to the USPHL.
