Corona native, Jr. Kings alum Murchison wraps NCAA D-I career at Arizona State, signs NHL deal with Flyers

The NHL’s Philadelphia Flyers have announced they have signed defenseman Ty Murchison to a two-year, entry-level contract beginning with the 2025-26 season.

Murchison was selected by the Flyers in the fifth round (158 overall) of the 2021 NHL Draft. He participated in Flyers Development Camp in 2022, 2023 and 2024.

The Corona native has just completed his fourth and final season at Arizona State where he totaled 24 points (nine goals, 15 assists) in 146 regular-season games throughout his career with the Sun Devils.

Murchison served as an alternate captain this season and helped his team to a postseason appearance at the NCHC Frozen Faceoff where they lost in the first round to third-seeded Denver.

Additionally, the Los Angeles Jr. Kings graduate set a new ASU program record for blocked shots in a single season, tallying 98 this season, which also led all NCHC skaters.

Prior to ASU, Murchison played with the U.S. National Team Development Program from 2019-21.

In addition, fellow California natives Hunter Sansbury (Lomita, Sacred Heart, Florida Everblades), Henri Schreifels (Agoura Hills, Stonehill, Wheeling Nailers) and Mattias Sholl (Hermosa Beach, Bemidji State, Greenville Swamp Rabbits), all who wrapped their NCAA careers in recent weeks, signed ECHL contracts.

Foothill Ranch native Colton Huard, who spent the past four years at New Hampshire, signed an AHL contract with the Charlotte Checkers.
