Eight teams win championships at Inland Empire Tournament Series’ Fall Classic

 

The Inland Empire Tournament Series Fall Classic was staged Thanksgiving weekend at Icetown Carlsbad and Icetown Riverside, with eight teams crowned division champions.

The event started Nov. 26 and concluded Nov. 28.

8U East

8U East
Champs: SDIA Oilers
Runner-up: California Wave
The Oilers and Wave combined for 15 goals, with SDIA winning the banner with a 10-5 victory. The Oilers exploded for six goals in the second period to pull away and secure the win.

8U North

8U North
Champs: San Diego Saints
Runner-up: Pasadena Maple Leafs
After a 3-3 first period, the Saints netted two in the second and two more in the third to earn the title with a 7-4 win.

8U South

8U South
Champs: SDIA Oilers
Runner-up: San Diego Jr. Gulls
In a battle of San Diego clubs, the Oilers scored two in the opening period and three in each of the next two to win 8-2.

10U B Carlsbad Champs

10U B
Champs: Jr. Reign Carlsbad
Runner-up: Bakersfield Jr. Condors
Four goals from Robert MacKay led the way for the Jr. Reign in the 6-1 win. Robert Bradshaw and Rocco Masciovecchi also scored and Mark Pastoral, Jr. earned the win in net for the Jr. Reign. Carter Mann scored for the Jr. Condors and Ethan Gomez played the entire game in goal.

12U North

12U North
Champs: Jr. Reign Riverside
Runner-up: Jr. Reign Carlsbad
Nathan Fanning had four goals to lead the Jr. Reign Riverside Reign team to a 5-5 tie through regulation. Koa Smith had goals in regulation and then the lone Carlsbad shootout goal. Jayden Peterson stopped two out of three shots in the shootout for Riverside. Marc Cox and Ryan Mady had the goals in the shootout for the Riverside team for a thrilling 6-5 shootout win.

12U South

12U South
Champs: Jr. Reign
Runner-up: San Diego Jr. Gulls
The Jr. Reign’s Liam Olsen and the Jr. Gulls’ Roman Garuba each pitched shutouts through regulation before the Jr. Reign scored twice in the shootout (Grayson Otto and Jacob Rosengren) to win 1-0 and claim another banner.

Champs: CN Stingrays
Runner-up: Carlsbad United
Brandan Julian stopped every shot he faced as the Stingrays took a 4-0 victory. Seth Morris scored twice to go along with a single goal from Hanna Newman.

Varsity/Midget Pool
Champs: DYHA Jr. Sun Devils
Runner-up: Bakersfield Jr. Condors
The Jr. Sun Devils were paced by five different goal scorers with Jake Sherry posting a two-point game with a goal and an assist in the 5-2 win. Tyler Kowalchuk, Brandon Bossch, Alex Shelley, and Dylan Woolstenhulme also scored to back Tagger Tamburo’s 13 saves in goal. For Bakersfield, Casey Kolthoff and Hudson Hillberg scored and Max Sutton turned aside 27 saves between the pipes.

The next event in the Inland Empire Tournament Series is the MLK Shootout, which is scheduled for January 14-17.
