Fremont natives Meure, Tarantino collect weekly honors from USPHL

The USPHL has announced that a pair of California natives have been named players of the week.

Jake Meure, of the Ogden Mustangs, is the Mountain Division Forward of the Week, while Vernal Oilers goalie Antonio Tarantino is the Northwest Division’s Goaltender of the Week.

Meure Magic moved into the top 10 in franchise history in points with style over the weekend. The Fremont product had four goals and two assists, punctuated by his first career hat trick in Ogden’s 9-2 victory over Rock Springs on Saturday night. Meure leads Ogden with nine points (4-5-9) through their first five games.

Back home, Meure skated for the San Jose Jr. Sharks.

Tarantino, a 2002-born Fremont native, is another player who received multiple votes, coming off a weekend that saw him stop 57 of 58 shots, including all 28 against Rogue Valley on Oct. 9. He is 3-0 overall in this, his second USPHL Premier season. He has an 0.85 goals-against average and a .978 save percentage on the year so far.

In California, Tarantino played for the Golden State Elite Eagles and Jr. Sharks.
