Groll, Johnson make cut for Team USA Under-17 Select Team for Five Nations Tournament
Twenty players who participated at the USA Hockey Boys Select 16 Player Development Camp have been chosen for the 2017 United States Under-17 Select Team that will compete Aug. 23-27 at the Five Nations Tournament in Ostrava, Czech Republic.
The week-long Boys Select 16 Player Development Camp concluded today (July 13) at the Northtown Center in Amherst, N.Y., with its annual all-star game and Five Nations Tournament roster selection.
Two players who played AAA hockey last season in California – forward Josh Groll (San Diego Jr. Gulls 15U, pictured top) and defenseman Ryan Johnson (Anaheim Jr. Ducks 16U, pictured below) – made the cut for Team USA.
Team USA won the Under-17 Five Nations Tournament last year in Frisco, Tex., posting a perfect 4-0 record. It marked the seventh championship in nine tries for the U.S., which also claimed top honors in 2015, 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010 and 2008.
In addition to the U.S., the 2017 Under-17 Five Nations Tournament will also include teams from Switzerland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Germany.
