Jr. Sharks alum Celebrini pins down Hockey East weekly, monthly awards

Hockey East has announced that Boston University freshman forward Macklin Celebrini is the Rookie of the Month.

Celebrini tied for the national lead among all players with eight goals in January, adding two assists for 10 points and the third-best mark in Hockey East.

The Vancouver, B.C., native began the month with three multi-point efforts and registered at least two points in four of his seven games. He netted three power-play goals, fourth-most in the NCAA, and won 52% of his faceoffs. His 46 shots were second in the NCAA.

In addition, Celebrini was named Hockey East Co-Rookie of the Week on Feb. 6. The freshman phenom posted a pair of two-point games with a goal and assist in both of the Terriers’ outings this past week. He scored a power-play goal and had the primary assist on the extra-attacker goal that forced overtime on Tuesday at Northeastern before scoring the game-winning goal and recording another primary assist at New Hampshire on Friday.

This is the fourth time this season and third time in the past four weeks that Celebrini has earned this award.

During his youth hockey days, Celebrini spent time with the San Jose Jr. Sharks.
