Manhattan Beach native, Jr. Kings grad Shane wins weekly ECAC Hockey goaltending award
Cornell senior goaltender Ian Shane has been named the ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week.
Last year’s ECAC Hockey Ken Dryden Goaltender of the Year, Shane registered a 2.00 goals-against average and .923 save percentage on the weekend in the pair of victories over North Dakota, stopping 48 of the 52 shots he faced.
The Manhattan Beach native’s 48 saves were the third-most by an ECAC Hockey goaltender, trailing RPI’s Noah Giesbrecht and Yale’s Jack Stark, who recorded 50 stops in their weekend series against Miami and Denver, respectively.
In its first victory against North Dakota, Shane stopped 23 of the 24 shots he faced, notably stopping the last 20 shots on goal to guide Cornell to a 4-1 victory. The following night, he made 25 saves on 28 shot attempts, helping the Big Red secure its second straight season-opening series sweep over an NCHC opponent.
Back home, Shane played for the Los Angeles Jr. Kings.
