Quarter of California products pick up weekly honors from NCDC, USPHL

The USPHL has announced that several California natives have earned weekly player honors.

South Shore Kings blueliner Jason Zaccari is the NCDC New England Division Defenseman of the Week, San Diego Sabers forward Liam Krupcynski is the Pacific Premier Division Forward of the Week, Bakersfield Roughnecks goalie Jakob Barcelona is the Pacific Premier Division Goaltender of the Week, and Tampa Bay Juniors goalie Shane Passaro is the Florida Elite Division Goaltender of the Week.

Zaccari, an ‘05 from Santa Ana, helped the Kings to a pair of wins against the Utica Jr. Comets, during which he posted a goal and three assists for four points. The veteran King, who helped the team to its first Dineen Cup last spring, is clicking on a point-per-game pace right now.

In California, Zaccari skated for the Anaheim Jr. Ducks.

Krupcyznski, a 2004 birth year out of San Diego, and his teammates faced three different opponents over the last week, and against these different opponents, the results were the same – Krupcyznski scored a lot of points.

He posted five goals and eight assists, including a show of 3-4-7 on Saturday. He is fifth in Premier scoring with 17 points.

Back home, Krupcynzski played for the San Diego Saints and Jr. Ducks.

After coming in for brief relief duty on Sept. 27 against the Sabers, Barcelona got the start the next night against the Ontario Jr. Reign and truly put together a beauty. The 2005-born Bakersfield native stopped 42 of 44 shots for the victory.

The second-year TBJ goaltender Passaro, an ‘04 from Palm Springs, returns to this honor for a second straight week.

He turned away 50 of 51 shots in his two wins at the USPHL Southeast Showcase, including a 15-save shutout of the Atlanta MadHatters and a 35-save performance against a regular powerhouse in the Charlotte Rush. With a save percentage of .982 and a GAA of 0.32, he is the early dominant goalie in the league.
