San Diego native, Jr. Gulls grad Harris tabbed USHL Forward of the Week

The USHL announced today that Sioux Falls Stampede forward Sam Harris has been named Forward of the Week after his five-point performance over the two-game Fall Classic last week.

This marks the first time in his USHL career that Harris has taken home the award.

The San Diego native led the Stampede over the season-opening weekend, tallying four goals and one assist for five points.

His first point came midway through the first period of Thursday afternoon’s tilt against the Muskegon Lumberjacks, assisting on a Will McDonough goal. His first goal of the game came at 2:01 in the third period when he took a pass from Maddox Fleming and rushed it to the net, bringing the Herd within two points of the Jacks. The Stampede would go on to drop the contest 7-4.

Harris put on a show during Friday afternoon’s matchup against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, tallying a hat trick. His first goal came at 6:05 in the first period, when he stuffed the puck in at the right side of the net on the man advantage. His second tally came a little over six minutes later, taking a long pass from Clint Levens on a breakaway. He completed his hat trick with 51 seconds remaining on the clock in the third period with the help of Ryan Gordon.

The University of Denver commit tallied 16 goals and 19 assists for 35 points in 60 games last season with the Stampede.

During his youth hockey days, Harris skated for the San Diego Jr. Gulls.
