Titans, OC Hockey Club alum Delia takes home weekly Hockey East honor

After his efforts between the pipes backstopped Merrimack College to a 2-0 shutout victory on the road against Wisconsin on Saturday night, junior goaltender Collin Delia has been named the Hockey East Co-Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Nov. 20, 2016.

Delia, who becomes Merrimack’s first major weekly award winner from the league offices this regular season, earns the honor for the first time in his career after securing his second career shutout against the Badgers on Saturday night.

On Saturday night, Delia turned away all 33 shots he faced over the course of 60 minutes to help the Warriors split their weekend set in Madison.

The Rancho Cucamonga native was making his first start since the second game of the regular season that saw him exit in the first period due to an injury. Despite that extended absence, Delia showed no signs of rust in earning his first shutout in just under two years. It was also Merrimack’s first shutout victory of the season.

In his youth days, Delia skated for the California Titans and OC Hockey Club and this past summer, was invited to the Anaheim Ducks’ Development Camp.
