The NEWHA has announced that Assumption freshman forward Cassandra Johnson is the Defensive Player of the Week.

Johnson was a vital part of Assumption’s 2-1 week. On Tuesday against Sacred Heart, she blocked three of her five shots in the game’s final moments to secure the 1-0 win over the Pioneers.

At Stonehill on Friday, she scored her second goal of the year while blocking a pair of shots and being a plus-one.

The Wilton native capped off the weekend with a four-block performance in Assumption’s 5-2 win over Stonehill on Saturday.

On the year, she leads the team with 43 blocked shots, with the next closest having 28.

Back home, Johnson played for the San Jose Jr. Sharks, Anaheim Lady Ducks, and Westmont High School.
