California natives Hamacher, Weyrick claim weekly Atlantic Hockey awards
For the first weekly awards of 2019, Atlantic Hockey has announced honors for two California natives.
Player of the Week
Jake Hamacher – Rochester Institute of Technology
Sophomore, Forward – Corona, Calif.
In the last game before the holiday break, Hamacher set a career-high with three points as RIT topped Niagara 8-4. He scored both RIT goals in the first period, then assisted on Gabe Valenzuela’s game-winning goal midway through the third period.
Hamacher played for the Wildcats and California Titans during his youth career.
Goalie of the Week
Blake Weyrick – Canisius
Junior, Goalie – Los Angeles, Calif.
Weyrick backstopped Canisius to a second-half opening tie with No. 14 Union. He stopped a career-high 42 shots, with 19 coming in the third period. He stopped all 38 shots faced at even strength, with both goals allowed coming on Union’s power play.
