California natives Perry, Anthony, Bruno cop weekly honors from USPHL

The USPHL has announced its player of the week awards, with three honors going to California natives.

San Diego Sabers goalie Nick Perry is the Pacific Premier Division Goaltender of the Week, while Seattle Totems forward Luke Anthony is the Northwest Premier Division Forward of the Week and Northern Cyclones forward Josh Bruno is the New England Elite Division Forward of the Week.

Perry, an ‘05 from Chino Hills, did everything he could for his team in their 3-2 loss to Ontario on Nov. 3, making 56 saves on 59 shots. That second win of the season pushed him to a .922 save percentage.

During his youth hockey days, Perry played for the Los Angeles Jr. Kings and high school hockey for Placentia-Yorba Linda.

Anthony, a 2004 birth year out of Anaheim, played in just one game last week but was huge for the Totems against the Rogue Valley Royals. He put up two goals, including the game-winning goal, and added an assist in the 4-1 victory.

He has five of his 12 total points in the last couple games.

Back home, Anthony skated for the Anaheim Jr. Ducks, California Wave and Orange Lutheran High School.

Bruno, an ‘04 from Glendora, has only been able to suit up for a pair of Elite games so far this year, but in that time, he put up two goals and three assists for five points. He helped the Cyclones to a weekend sweep of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights with his offense, coming after a five-game call-up to the Premier Cyclones.

He now has 73 points in 45 Elite games for the Cyclones.

As a youth hockey player in California, Bruno starred for the Empire Hockey Club, Orange County Hockey Club and Jr. Kings.
