Former Jr. Duck, Jr. King Kent makes NCAA D-I commitment, decides on Mercyhurst for ’22-23 season

The BCHL’s Vernon Vipers have announced that defenseman Nick Kent has committed to NCAA Division I Mercyhurst University (Atlantic Hockey) for the 2022-23 season.

“It’s very rewarding to see all Nick’s hard work and dedication pay off after such a hard year with the pandemic,” said Vipers coach-GM Jason McKee. “He’s earned this opportunity and our staff looks forward to continuing to work with Nick next season before he makes the jump to college hockey.”

Kent, from Ladera Ranch, finished his second season with the Vipers in 2021. In 66 games, he has posted 30 points (four goals, 26 assists).

He has spent four seasons amassing 160 games of junior hockey in the BCHL, OJHL and USHL.

“I’m very excited to be joining such a great program,” said Kent. “I’m looking forward to furthering my education and my hockey game at Mercyhurst. I am also very thankful to the coaching staff and the entire organization of the Vernon Vipers for their support and guidance. I’m looking forward to a great season next year.”

During his youth career, Kent played for the Anaheim Jr. Ducks and Los Angeles Jr. Kings.
