Gilroy native, Jr. Ducks, GSE product Garcia commits to NCAA D-III Western New England

The EHL’s Walpole Express have announced the commitment of Dalton Garcia to Western New England University.

Located in Springfield, Mass., the Golden Bears play in the Commonwealth Coast Conference.

The 2001-born forward and alternate captain from Gilroy completed his second season with the Express organization in 2021-22.

“WNE has a beautiful campus and a great computer science program,” said Garcia. “It was really important to find a program that cares about their players. Coach (Mike) Young wasn’t just worried about my production on the ice, but also my health off the ice. I am excited to join the program this fall.”

“Western New England University is getting a very good hockey player and also an outstanding person,” added now-former Walpole coach Josh Holmstrom. “Dalton went through a lot of highs and lows this year. He played in all areas of the ice for us this year and excelled. He had a frustrating injury before the break that we weren’t sure he would be able to play for us in the playoffs. He worked through a lot to get ready and added a boost to our lineup at the right time. He cares a lot about his teammates and wears his heart on his sleeve. I am very excited for Dalton and believe he will do very well at the next level.”

When asked about his experience with the Express, Garcia said that his “time in Walpole helped in so many ways.”

“The friendships I made and the hardships that came my way truly motivated me to become the best version of myself,” said Garcia.

During his youth hockey days, Garcia spent time with the Anaheim Jr. Ducks and Golden State Elite Eagles.
