Jr. Ducks alum, Huntington Beach product Loggins bags monthly WCHA honor
Huntington Beach native and Northern Michigan University junior forward Troy Loggins has been named the Co-WCHA Offensive Player of the Month for March.
Loggins was magnificent in March, tying for the NCAA lead with a WCHA-best six goals and two game-winning markers (both in decisive Game 3s of the WCHA playoffs), while also pacing the country with two short-handed tallies.
The Anaheim Jr. Ducks grad also collected four assists, tying for second in the WCHA last month with 10 points in seven games.
Loggins tallied a point in five March contests, including a trio of multi-point efforts, to lead Northern Michigan to the 2018 WCHA championship game.
After tallying a goal and an assist in a quarterfinal-round, Game 1 victory over Alabama Huntsville, he set a career high with four points in a 5-2, Game 3 win – including the tie-breaking, game-winning power-play goal late in the second period. Loggins also scored arguably the most dramatic goal in recent Northern Michigan history, netting the game-winner 15:53 into overtime of the decisive semifinal round Game 3, lifting the Wildcats past Bowling Green 3-2 and into the league title contest. He also had a two-point night (goal, assist) in NMU’s Game 1 victory over the Falcons.
Loggins finished the season second in the WCHA’s overall scoring race with 47 points, coming from 23 goals and 24 assists.
