Jr. Kings alum, Manhattan Beach native Shane claims weekly ECAC Hockey award

For the third time this season, Cornell junior goaltender Ian Shane has been named the ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week.

This is Shane’s ninth time being honored as the conference’s top netminder during his two-plus years between the pipes for Cornell.

Shane made a season-high 35 saves in the Big Red’s 2-1 victory over No. 5-ranked Boston University before 15,289 at Madison Square Garden in the biennial Red Hot Hockey contest on Saturday night.

His 1.00 weekly goals-against average was tied with Union’s Kyle Chauvette and Colgate’s Andrew Takacz for the best clip of any ECAC Hockey netminder, while his .972 save percentage was the best of any ECAC Hockey goaltender, besting Takacs’ .957 figure.

Over two career games at Madison Square Garden, Shane has posted a 2-0-0 record with a 0.50 goals-against average and a .984 save percentage, stopping 62 of the 63 shots he has faced.

So far this season, Shane has a 5-1-1 record with a 1.66 goals-against average and a .923 save percentage. Five of Shane’s eight outings this season have featured the Manhattan Beach native allowing one goal or less.

Back home, Shane played for the Los Angeles Jr. Kings.
