Atlantic Hockey announced today that Sacred Heart University junior defenseman Hunter Sansbury has been named Defensive Player of the Week.

Sansbury keyed a defensive effort which saw the Pioneers block 36 shots over the course of the weekend. He blocked four shots in each of the two games against Niagara to match his career high, and has now registered four blocks in each of the last four games.

The Lomita native also recorded five shots of his own at the other end of the ice and was even for the week in terms of plus/minus.

On the season, Sansbury has one goal and one assist through six games. He is the team’s leader with 20 blocked shots, which also leads Atlantic Hockey. Sansbury has recorded 16 shots of his own at the offensive end.

During his youth hockey career, Sansbury played for the Los Angeles Jr. Kings and at St. John Bosco High School.
