Los Angeles native, Jr. Kings grad Silverberg tabbed for weekly NAHL award

 

The NAHL South Division Star of the Week is New Mexico Ice Wolves goaltender Jackson Silverberg.

Silverberg stood tall in the blue paint over the weekend for the Ice Wolves, the Los Angeles native picked up crucial points in New Mexico’s hunt for the postseason.

“Jackson has been solid for us all season long,” said Ice Wolves head coach Kyle McKenzie. “He had a great opportunity last weekend and ran with it. He has a tremendous work ethic and it is no surprise Jackson is having success.”

Starting things off on Friday night, the Los Angeles Jr. Kings alum was lights out after allowing an early first-period goal by the Corpus Christi IceRays. He stopped 28 of 29 shots for the win.

Moving into Saturday night, the ‘06 first-year goaltender picked up a shootout victory. The contest featured a back-and-forth battle between the teams, forcing the game into overtime and an eventual shootout. Silverberg saved both shootout attempts, lifting his team to a 3-2 victory on the road. Between the pipes, Silverberg made 40 saves, ranking as his second highest performance of the season.

For the weekend, Silverberg stopped 68 out of 71 shots on net, good for a 1.50 goals-against average and a .971 save percentage between both games. For the season, he has picked up 18 wins in his 28 games played, securing a .911 save percentage in his rookie season.
