Los Angeles native Potter chosen to represent U.S. at 2022 IIHF Under-18 Women’s World Championship

USA Hockey announced today the 23 players who will make up the 2022 U.S. Under-18 Women’s National Team and compete in the IIHF Under-18 Women’s World Championship, which will be held Jan. 8-15, in Linkoping and Mjölby, Sweden.

Among the 23 is Los Angeles native Laney Potter, who has spent the last several seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite program and is playing the 2021-22 season for the Philadelphia Jr. Flyers’ 19U team.

Potter is committed to NCAA D-I Wisconsin for the 2023-24 season.

Katie Lachapelle, head women’s hockey coach at NCAA Division I Holy Cross, will serve as head coach of the 2022 U.S. Under-18 Women’s National Team.

“We’re excited for the upcoming world championship,” said Lachapelle. “Our roster is filled with incredibly talented players from across the country and together we’ll strive to bring the gold medal back to the U.S.”

Team USA has won six of the last seven gold medals in the event, including in 2020 when it beat Canada 2-1 in overtime in the title game. The 2021 championship was canceled due to the pandemic.
