McManus, Lodnia, Chmelevski named to U.S. Select Team
Three players with California youth hockey ties – forwards Brannon McManus, Ivan Lodnia and Sasha Chmelevski – were chosen to play for the U.S. Under-18 Select Team that will compete in the upcoming Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament, which will run from Aug. 8-13 in Breclav, Czech Republic, and Bratislava, Slovakia.
McManus, a former LA Select from Newport Beach, recently competed his first season with the United States Hockey League’s Omaha Lancers with whom he tallied 17 goals for 39 points in 58 regular-season games.
McManus, who helped prestigious Minnesota prep school Shattuck-St. Mary’s win its first Bantam AAA and Midget 16U AAA USA Hockey national titles in recent years, will attend and play his NCAA Division I hockey the University of Minnesota following his junior career.
Lodnia, who played locally with Wildcats Hockey Club, struck for 16 goals and 39 points in 62 regular-season games in his first season with the Ontario Hockey League’s (OHL) Erie Otters. He registered four assists in 13 postseason games.
Chmelevski, a Huntington Beach native who also played locally for Wildcats Hockey Club, began the season with the OHL’s Sarnia Sting before his move to the Ottawa 67’s. He totaled 11 goals for 19 points in 34 games this past season.
The 1999-born trio was chosen to play in the Hlinka tourney after delivering impressive performances at this week’s USA Hockey Boys Select 17 Player Development Camp, which was showcased at Northtown Center in Williamsville, N.Y.
