University of Minnesota freshman Brannon McManus has been tabbed the Big Ten Third Star of the Week after recording his first career hat trick in Minnesota’s 6-3 win over Penn State on Sunday at 3M Arena at Mariucci.

A native of Newport Beach, McManus scored three goals – his first three collegiate tallies – on three shots in the third period, including the eventual game-winning goal.

His three goals led all Big Ten skaters as well as all NCAA freshmen over the weekend. The forward was plus-three on the night and also added a block in the win.

During his youth career, McManus played for the LA Hockey Club and the LA Jr. Kings.
