The NHL’s Vancouver Canucks have announced that the club has agreed to terms with defenseman Zeev Buium on an eight-year contract extension with a $9.38 million AAV.  

“Zeev has settled in nicely with our organization since his trade to Vancouver last season, and we are extremely happy to see him make this long-term commitment to the Canucks,” said Vancouver GM Ryan Johnson. “He is a key member of our young core and a player we will build around moving forward. Zeev has a lot of upside, and we feel with his abilities he will flourish in the system and environment we are creating inside our locker room. We look forward to working together and creating a strong partnership and foundation for our future.” 

Buium, 20, appeared in 45 games with Vancouver last season, registering 12 points (three goals, nine assists) and 33 penalty minutes. In 76 career NHL games, split between the Minnesota Wild and Canucks, he has posted 26 points (six goals, 20 assists) and 41 penalty minutes. 

The San Diego native made his NHL debut during the 2024-25 Stanley Cup Playoffs, skating in four games for Minnesota, recording one assists and four penalty minutes.

Prior to turning pro, Buium played 83 games across two seasons at NCAA Division I Denver, scoring 98 points (24 goals, 74 assists), 64 penalty minutes, and a plus-50 plus/minus rating, winning an NCAA national championship in 2024.  

Buium has represented the United States internationally on multiple occasions, including the 2023 Under-18 World Championship (gold), the 2024 (gold) and 2025 (gold) World Junior Hockey Championship, and the 2025 World Championship (gold).  

The former Los Angeles Jr. Kings and SDIA Oilers star and was originally selected by the Wild in the first round (12th overall) of the 2024 NHL Draft.
