San Jose’s Knight, Chula Vista’s Mayer take home weekly honors from USPHL

A pair of California natives have earned weekly honors this week from the USPHL.

The Midwest West Division Goaltender of the Week is Hudson Havoc netminder Ryan Knight and the New England Division Defenseman of the Week is Braden Mayer of the Boston Jr. Bruins.

Knight, a 2003 birth year from San Jose, was in the net for both games in the Havoc’s weekend sweep of the Wisconsin Rapids River Kings. He stopped 60 of 62 shots faced on the weekend and was a key factor in both Havoc victories on the road.

During his youth hockey days, Knight played for the San Jose Jr. Sharks and at Willow Glen High School.

Mayer, an ’02 out of Chula Vista, had a superb weekend for a Jr. Bruins team that went 3-1. He was plus-4 and posted four hits all while putting together a 2-1-3 line in his four games with both goals being power-play markers.

Mayer has 12 points in 29 games this season.

As a youth standout, Mayer skated for the San Diego Jr. Gulls and Anaheim Jr. Ducks.
