Laguna Hills’ Shetland makes college decision, commits to NCAA Division III Trine for ’21-22 season

Connecticut Chiefs forward Tyler Shetland has committed to NCAA Division III Trine University for the fall of 2021.

The 2000-born native of Laguna Hills joined the Chiefs in early February of this past season and posted eight points (three goals, five assists) in 13 Eastern Hockey League games down the stretch in the regular season and playoffs.

“Getting Shetland was a huge deal for us,” said former Chiefs coach-GM Neil Breen. “Tyler is a tremendously talented athlete who added offense, leadership, and experience to our front end and truly helped us find our second-half success. We’re excited for Tyler as he continues his journey. He’s a fantastic kid with a bright future. We wish him all the best as he heads to a great hockey program and education at Trine University.”

Shetland started the 2020-21 season with the NCDC’s Northern Cyclones, tallying two goals and four points over nine games.

“My experience with the Chiefs organization was incredible,” said Shetland. “The Chiefs and the EHL provide an excellent model for development of their players. Any young player looking for a home, big or small, will find an excellent place here in the league. I feel extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity to play for the Chiefs’ program. The support and constant communication from the coaching staff the entire way through was second-to-none.”

During his youth career, Shetland skated for the Anaheim Jr. Ducks and Wildcats (now Jr. Reign).
