California products Pool, O’Dea, Kennedy bag weekly USPHL awards

The USPHL has announced that a trio of California natives has earned weekly USPHL honors.

Nashville Spartans defenseman Alec Pool is the Great Lakes Premier Division Defenseman of the Week, while Florida Jr. Blades netminder Chase O’Dea is the Florida Elite Division Goaltender of the Week and Hampton Roads Whalers goalie Janic Kennedy is the Southeast Elite Division Goaltender of the Week.

Pool, an ’04 from Monrovia, was strong all over the ice for the Spartans as they competed in the USPHL Southeast Showcase, coming up with a line of 1-3-4 in four games.

After posting 10 points in 10 games so far this season, he’s on pace to shatter the 18-point total he had as a rookie with the Spartans last year.

Back home, Pool skated for the California Golden Bears, California Wave, and Los Angeles Jr. Kings.

O’Dea, a 2006 birth year from Orange County, put together an outstanding performance by stopping 30 of 31 Columbia Infantry shots for the Jr. Blades’ only win at the USPHL Southeast Showcase.

A former Jr. Everblades 16U goalie, O’Dea holds a .914 save percentage in his two appearances so far.

Kennedy, an ‘04 out of San Diego, repeats as a Player Of The Week thanks to his domination of a second straight showcase.

After going 2-0 at the BJB Shootout one week earlier, he then went 2-0 again – but this time with zero goals against – at the USPHL Southeast Showcase. He enjoyed a 22-save shutout vs. the Atlanta MadHatters and a 20-save blanking of the Jr. Blades in his trip to North Carolina.

He stands at 4-1-0-0 with a .941 save percentage and a 1.39 GAA on the season.

During his youth hockey days, Kennedy played for the Anaheim Jr. Ducks and San Diego Saints.
