Midwest Division Star of the Week
Mattias Sholl, goaltender, Fairbanks Ice Dogs

Thanks to a couple of home wins over the Topeka Pilots, the Ice Dogs ran their winning streak to three straight games and moved just five points behind the Minnesota Magicians for first place in the Midwest Division.

Sholl started and won both games, giving up just a single goal in the process.

On Friday, the native of Hermosa Beach stopped all 17 shots that came his way for his second shutout of the year in a 4-0 win. On Saturday, he stopped 35 of 36 shots in a 4-1 win.

Sholl has a 7-1-4 record to date with a 2.21 goals-against average and a .918 save percentage.

“Mattias was solid in both games,” said Fairbanks head coach Trevor Stewart. “I think he really stood out on Saturday and he was there when the team needed him. He has progressively gotten better as the season has gone along, so we are confident his best hockey is ahead of him.”

During his youth career, Sholl played for the Los Angeles Jr. Kings.
