Preds take San Diego’s Moy in NHL draft

San Diego native Tyler Moy, who grew up playing with the San Diego Jr. Gulls, was selected by the Nashville Predators in the sixth round (175th overall) of this year’s NHL Entry Draft, which was conducted on June 26-27 in Sunrise, Fla.

Moy, a forward, recently completed his sophomore season at Harvard University where he struck for 12 goals and 27 points for the NCAA Tournament-qualifying Crimson.

Prior to Harvard, Moy, who was named to this year’s California Rubber Magazine All-NCAA Men’s Division I Team, played a season of junior with the United States Hockey League’s Omaha Lancers.

Former Jr. Gulls goaltender Thatcher Demko, who will begin his junior season at Boston College in the fall, was selected in the second round of last year’s NHL draft by the Vancouver Canucks.
