Quartet of California talents garner weekly awards from USPHL

The USPHL has announced that a quartet of California natives has taken home weekly honors.

Fort Wayne Spacemen goalie Bryce Dunnigan is the Midwest East Division Goaltender of the Week, Lake Tahoe Lakers forward Ari Rossi is the Pacific Division Forward of the Week, Long Beach Shredders defenseman Drew Mazza is the Pacific Division Defenseman of the Week, and New York Aviators forward Jake Bergmann is the Mid-Atlantic Elite Division Forward of the Week.

Dunnigan had a fantastic USPHL Detroit Showcase, helping Fort Wayne secure big wins over Metro Jets and the Steele County Blades.

The 2002-born Bakersfield native allowed just one goal against the Jets and made a pair of huge saves in overtime against Steele County. He stopped 71 of 75 shots on the weekend.

Back home, Dunnigan played for Tahoe Prep Academy and the Valencia Jr. Flyers.

Rossi, a 2002-born Santa Rosa native, has come back with a vengeance, posting 26 points in 21 games of this, his second season in Lake Tahoe.

He posted a goal and seven assists in the Lakers’ three-game weekend series against the Shredders, which improved his career total to 67 assists and 93 points in 61 career games.

In California, Rossi played for the San Jose Jr. Sharks, Sonoma County Flyers, and Tahoe Prep.

Mazza, a 2003 birth year out of Mission Viejo and former Saddleback United High School player, continues to improve after posting a 1-2-3 line in the Shredders’ three victories against Lake Tahoe.

He has scored all 11 of his points this season over his last 13 games back to the start of October, after utilizing his first eight games before that to adjust to the USPHL Premier. He also had five blocked shots against the Lakers.

During his youth hockey career, Mazza also played for the Orange County Hockey Club and Tahoe Prep.

Bergmann, a 2003-born Buena Park product, was a force last weekend for the Aviators.

He helped get the win against the Bridgewater Bandits with one goal and an assist. Over the four games, he totaled three goals and one assist.

He has an 11-8-19 line in 16 games, placing him third on the Aviators.

As a youth standout, Bergmann skated for the California Wave and with the Placentia-Yorba Linda high school team.
