California products Sellwood, Passaro garner weekly USPHL accolades
The USPHL has handed out its weekly awards, with a pair from California earning the honors.
Ventura Vikings goalie Ethan Sellwood is the Pacific Premier Division Goaltender of the Week and Tampa Bay Juniors netminder Shane Passaro is the Florida Elite Division Goaltender of the Week.
Sellwood (‘05/Laguna Beach) stopped 37 of 38 shots to help the Vikings earn a 2-1 win against the Long Beach Bombers, another California team close to finishing its first USPHL Premier season. Sellwood improved to 7-2-0-0 this season, which he began with the Ontario Jr. Reign.
Back home, Sellwood played for the Capistrano United high school team and the Jr. Reign youth program.
Passaro (‘04/Palm Springs) registered a 29-save shutout and 46 saves on 47 shots over Feb. 21-22. Passaro only lost in regulation once all year — in November — and stands with a career-best 16-1-1-1 record and a .928 save percentage.
